You know I was just thinking about it, listening to the Erana's Peace music and humming along. You know when people talk about going to a "happy place" or some place they feel safe whenever they freak out? Metaphorically or whatever, but you know what I mean, right? Just someplace where you feel safe, like nothing can get you or hurt you. I tried to picture a place like that in my head, and my mind immediately just went to Erana's Peace and played the music all :D :D at me, and it's like darn it brain. but it's true though, I think if I ever had a safe place in my head to go if I ever freaked out or something, Erana's Peace would be it. Even hearing the music just changes my mood completely to this kind of serene, peaceful feeling. Erana's Peace, or maybe the Garden at the Top of the World from the third game.
Just another way this game series has seriously impacted my life, but anyway. LET'S FINISH THINGS UP, SHALL WE!
And now the quest to raise my few remaining stats. PERHAPS SOME MAGE'S MAZE WILL RAISE MY INTELLIGENCE/MAGIC.
YOUR FACE AGH
Darn it, not good enough. Eh, back to casting spells randomly in the woods for me.
I was kind of surprised that strength has taken this long, it usually doesn't. I thought about going back and raking the stables again then remembered I can't go back to the castle now that Elsa's there without triggering the end of the game. FRICK.
Aww, Erana. If I was a magic user like that I'd make safe places like this everywhere.
These do not begin to capture how long raising magic/intelligence takes. Arrrrgh.
Bored, here are some frames from the Terrorsaurus Rex's death!
MY LAST BREATH, OH
I regret nothing.
FRICK sometimes when you come to Mirror Lake things pop out at you, and this time the dolphin from the EcoQuest games appeared but I freaked out and didn't click the eye on it fast enough to get a message, just this screenshot. FRICK.
LET'S CHECK OUT THE AMBUSH
Well that was easy enough.
Three Brigands in a row, pfft.
WOOO GRAPHICAL GLITCHES
Darn i thought I could get an intelligence point doing this or something. OH WELL, BACK TO GRINDING.
THERE at least strength is done.
BUT I'M SO CURIOUS
Anyway back to work.
Oh yeah, here's the animation bit for Calm.
It plays a tiny little riff of the Erana's Peace music when you do this. :D
MY BRILLIANT PLAN, NO
COME ON ARGH ARRRRGH
Now for intelligence, a more insidious foe.
So then I thought maybe doing a quest would give me some int real quick.
That is a good deal for apples.
I'LL NEVER GO HUNGRY AGAIN no you actually need exactly this many.
You're a good dude, Brauggi, let's have a beer sometime
HMM, WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS
my poor feelings :<
yeah this looks like a good place to stand
Wow I thought for sure that'd crush me. :O Oh well.
Fun fact: I often used to recite this poem to people for no reason as a kid. I was very popular with my peers, as you can guess.
House seems unimpressed. :O
I KNOW THIS ONE
House: Go on.
Apparently my house death so upset me I went to go cast Dazzle at this Mantaray's corpse. Okay.
MANTAS EVERYWHERE, THERE OUGHTA BE A LAW
Okay let's do this properly now
I don't remember if I linked to this before, but Baba Yaga plays when you're outside the gate and inside as well. Just sinister/creepy kind of stuff, sometimes plays in caves. Gets reprised in the sequel in an odd place, since it's such a distinct theme. :O
Baba Yaga's face really creeped me out as a kid, it's like she's got mold growing on her or something D: It still does honestly.
OH NO I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS
Fun Fact: That rhyme is partly where the name Ranachu comes from. This game series is everywhere in my life, no joke.
I DON'T RECALL HAVING ONE NO
Game: wtf are you doing
The hero business is a tricky affair.
Brave Sir Robin ran away away
Game: WTF ARE YOU DOING.
BEIN NO PART OF YOUR COUNTRY CLUBGETTIN YOU NO MANDRAKE ROOT YOU FREAK B----
The game is trying to tell me something.
Baba Yaga's rhymes are always so lame.
Well I guess I got a little boost from that. ARGH THIS IS TAKING FOREVER
Well dang better get on that.
This is also why you NEVER want to trigger this quest at night, because if you miss your chance to get the root and save, or something like that, your save game is worthless. HURRAY!
The music that plays in the Graveyard is super dramatic, all intense organs and everything. :D It's awesome.
D: D: D:
Bruno lied to me! There are no thieves here! They don't undulate.
HEY GUYS WHAT'S GOIN ON
Hahaha death message so long it overflows its own textbox WAY TO GO PROGRAMMERS
also lol sierra
It's best to be close to the graveyard while you wait this out. You really don't have a big window of time to do this, and you can't afford to miss it. It's best to play it safe.
That always creeped me out. Mandrake roots in general creep me out because of this game. D:
Fat little root.
Back to Baba Yaga's place licketysplit.
HELP SHE'S A DRAGON AAAA
As shameful as this is to admit, I would probably eat Frog leg fricasee and frog leg frappe. THEY SOUND DELICIOUS... FOR SOME REASON, I DUNNO LEAVE ME ALONE
I wonder what happens if you go back in her house without the root? Eh, too late to find out now.
I'd probably eat that too come to think of it. thanks brain.
You can actually do the Mandrake root quest anytime you want, if you just get the gem for the skull guarding the gate and learn the password. No big problem. I just usually put it off until near the end cause I'm lazy.
Wasted 99 mp and not a SINGLE STAT INCREASE
Anyway while wandering around, managed to catch another easter egg. :D
LOOK FAMILIAR, ANYONE WHO GREW UP IN THE EARLY 90S?
Yeah, triggering Earl is a bit tricky, I think... if you come down from the north to this screen, I think you have a chance of triggering him. It'll let you know if you do. Another random weird detail they threw in here.
ARGH SO CLOSE
I like the animation for Open. :B
Henry: why did my door open D:
Dagger throwing is a required skill for theivery.
YES FINALLY HAHAHAHAHA PERFECT HERO
now to finish this sucker
Make sure you've got your mirror at the ready here. There's a bit of time to grab it if you're not prepared, but I like to be careful.
You have to make sure to grab your mirror as soon as you have the chance, since you don't have a lot of time to do it. Keep an eye on the status bar to check whether or not you can grab it.
There we go, here's the moment!
Let's take in these rich surroundings first.
I always thought it was actually a cave. :O
Who knew the Hero was a neat freak? :O
HINT HINT says the game
But I haven't finished looking yet!
Okay now let's do this
HAHA IN YOUR FACE BABA YAGA
THANK YOU THANK YOU
WOOO PARTY note the status line change
you may notice some new people in here. Let's give them a click.
Aha, they're programmers! Each of them has a little animation when you click on them, but a lot of them went by too quickly for me to catch. Dang.
There, caught the one for Corey Cole. Lori and Corey are the two people behind Quest for Glory, like Roberta Williams for King's Quest and the Two Guys from Andromeda for Space Quest.
Their one headbanging programmer, loves Dio
There are trekkies amongst us
I think Diana Wilson was a little stressed out.
Yeah I'm awesome
I SURE DID
I also recorded the ending, if you want to see all the programmer animations and hear the music and everything. :D
YOU GUYS SHOULD PLAY IT, BY THE WAY
AND HERE IS THE REAL REASON I GRINDED MY STATS TO PERFECT
BECAUSE YOU CAN IMPORT YOUR HERO INTO THE NEXT GAME :D :D :D
thus why it always pays off to put in that extra bit of effort to make your hero the best they can be, since that's less work you can do in the sequel and already an advantage when you're just starting out. IT WASN'T JUST FOR THE SATISFACTION OF IT HAHAHAHA
There we go.
And don't worry, you can import into QFG2 whether you play the VGA version of 1 or not. :D
But hey, what was that other ending I mentioned? LET'S FIND OUT
Bad end. :<
Ah, such lovely music.
Aubrey Hodges later went on to do the music for QFG4. :D
You guys kind of slacked off.
THE END! And for a bonus, a Closing Medley, which covers themes from the game (god I love how they're all woven into each other) and also throws in some bits from QFG2. :D God I love how triumphant and powerful the QFG theme is at the beginning, it just makes me feel this irrepressible happiness. :D :D I love this series so much.
Thanks for reading, those of you who've been following this. :D I really can't put into words how much this game series means to me or how much it impacted my life, but maybe this gives a bit of insight into it. I dunno. :B
