Anyway, we've reached our final destination
no items fox only and it's only about 280 caps long! Haha. I mentioned before that I laugh at people who claim most games today now are too difficult, but I also laugh at people who claim endings are unsatisfactory. YOU HAVEN'T HAD AN UNSATISFYING ENDING UNLESS YOU PLAYED SOME OLD NES GAMES.
OR SPACE QUEST 5.
OR THIS GAME which, while not the worst, is still pretty anti-climactic if you ask me.
A DARK ISLAND YOU SAY? SOUNDS AWESOME.
A Dark Island is just kind of sinister sounding, but it still has that kind of pleasant, gemlike sound that most Kyrandia music has. I'm not sure how to describe it. GEMLIKE WORKS FOR ME OKAY WHAT
You know, the pegasus thing comes back through all three games, so I'm really used to it. I was kind of :O to see that it surprised some people. I PLAY THESE GAMES TOO MUCH.
A subtle dig at King's Quest, which was very fond of killing you by cliff-edge. And when I say very fond I mean you couldn't walk a few screens without almost falling off the edge of a cliff and dying. I'm so not even joking. SCREW YOU, KING'S QUEST 2, 3, AND 4. SCREW YOU.
Oh ho, copy protection! my old foe. We meet again.
Can you imagine getting this far and getting this screen, and by this point losing your manual? AWESOME HUH?
Thankfully, with the cracked version I supplied you with, there are no worries.
Well hey, dark island with a grave. Alright.
Fun fact: this grave comes back in Kyrandia 3, and it looks almost exactly the same. :D I just like continuity like that.
Here I am at, Camp Granada
GOOD THING I BROUGHT THIS FLOWER WITH ME
BY THE WAY IF YOU DIDN'T BRING THIS FLOWER WITH YOU YOU'RE SCREWED
IF YOU SAVED HERE YOU'LL HAVE TO START OVER
"YOU KIDS STOP SCREWIN AROUND UP THERE, WE'RE TRYIN TO GET SOME SLEEP"
"Did you bring any commas? We ran out."
Mother is just really nice, soft music with a flute goin on. It kind of reminds me a bit of the Pegasus music, come to think of it. Has a chorus goin on in the back, ghosty kind of thing. You know. But still sort of triumphant.
"Anger Brandons are the leading cause of pithy comments today."
Are these two things connected? WITH THIS GAME, WHO KNOWS?
"But man, he was a good jester!"
"I'm sure if you ask him nicely, he'll let you be king. He's kind of goofy that way."
Good thing I picked that up before I came here! If you don't have it at this point you're screwed by the way. That pegasus ride was a one way trip.
"HOW ABOUT AN EXPLANATION OF YOUR GIFT THAT WOULD BE AWESOME TOO MOM MOM? MOM? #^$#IT."
"grammatical principles will attack you wherever you go do not give in to commas"
"Amulet. Magic amulet. Sorry."
Eh whatever, what's this red thingy do?
Oh hey, invisibility! Well there you go. At least that's fairly easy to understand.
NOT ANOTHER FOREST MAZE PLEASE OH GOD
These caps look really dark to me at the moment, but there are two dragons on top of the gate, if you can't see them.
I'M SURE THEY ARE JUST DECORATION
Now THAT was a pretty neat death. The animation for it is really pretty smooth. :D I should record it for you guys someday.
Haha, can't see me!
REMEMBER THAT IRON KEY?
YEAH THAT UNLOCKS THIS GATE
WHY THAT KEY WAS IN THE LABYRINTH IS TOTALLY UNKNOWN BUT I GUESS MAYBE MALCOLM PUT IT THERE JUST TO MESS WITH YOU, HE'D PROBABLY DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT
BUT YEAH IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH THE GATE SO HOPE YOU BROUGHT IT WITH YOU
That gift was immediately handy!
Man, there is this one part in King's Quest 5 (and 6 i guess) where you have to sneak around the castle and such, and because of that screens like this always make me so paranoid. I'm always convinced something is going to come kill me any minute. It doesn't matter what castle in what game, IF I'M IN A CASTLE, I COULD DIE AT ANY MOMENT. Thanks Sierra.
COMMAS, PEOPLE! Well I guess Malcolm can transcend grammatical rules if he so wishes, he's Malcolm.
Malcolm in the Castle is a bit more serious and malevolent than his theme has been so far, but it's still got that silly circus sound in the background. Oh Malcolm. ♥
Gathered that, thanks.
That's where he keeps his Kyragem and Kyracave and Kyramobile and Kyraphone and Kyrashark-repellant.
Haha sudden change in attitude from Brandon. I WOULD NOT SHOUT INSULTS AT A GUY WHO CAN BLOW UP THINGS WITH HIS MIND, BRANDON.
You know, come to think of it, why DOESN'T Malcolm just do that?
Again, odd behavior from Malcolm. These two have the weirdest protagonist/antagonist relationship ever.
Oh hey, Herman! Remember him?
I CAN'T SEE A DOWNSIDE!
Haha yeah right Brandon you wuss.
HEY GUESS WHAT'S ALSO A MAZE
HOPE YOU GOT SOME PAPER HANDY
Exploring the Castle is just kind of quiet and creepy sounding. Kind of makes one nervous over time.
This is a different screen, believe it or not. YES THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE AWESOME THIS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED
My thoughts exactly, Brandon. wait, he might not be being sarcastic.
Alright, gotta find me a key then.
Huh. There was nothing in here. wtf.
Of course I immediately clicked the things face, what else would you do? SECRET PASSAGE
HEY GUESS WHAT GUYS IT'S ANOTHER MAZE
BUT THIS ONE'S PITCH BLACK
HAR HAR HAR
Castle Dungeon is actually more pleasant than the Castle music, but it's still annoying just because of where it plays. Frigging A. Although it's still very pretty music. Has a nice hook to it.
Although my will o wisp spell will take care of that!
wtf is that.
I clicked it a ton of times, but could do nothing to it as a will o wisp, and will o wisp didn't seem to want to run out any time soon thanks kyrandia so i made my way back to the entrance.
Huh, this is obviously a spelling puzzle. Can you figure it out?
I assume this is important! Why Malcolm would just leave this and the Royal Chalice just lying around is anyone's guess.
BUT WON'T YOU WEAR IT SOMEDAY BRANDON
Okay, after stumbling my way to this specific room IN THE DARK, i still don't know what to do with this stupid green thing.
maybe there's a switch somewhere that turns it off, idk
THE BURN MEANS YOUR MUSCLES ARE BUILDING
Herman, Possessed! is just kind of DUN DUN DUNNADUNDNANAAAN! *screeeeeee*
Brandon: ::slowly backs away::
REALLY LET ME SEE
Well anyway let's go do something else.
DARM, NO! Brandywine must be heartbroken. :<
HEY KNOW WHAT'S POINTLESS
THIS SILVER STUATUETTE! :D
No seriously it serves no purpose, just like the rainbow stone. However, stubborn as I am about this kind of thing, I will keep it in my inventory forever.
So THAT'S where Brynn went.
THIS FISH IS ALSO USELESS
Alright, time to get past ol crazyface here.
That's weird, I thought my yellow gem would heal him off his... zombiism? I'm not sure what that is. :/ Ah well.
THIS HOURGLASS IS ALSO USELESS
You have to ping these in order, and I honestly can't tell you which order because I completely forget. It's not anything you'd expect, and it's literally something you have to figure out through trial and error because heck if there are any hints. ENJOY.
Okay, maybe this gold key will work on that green thing! somehow.
So it didn't. At this point I got frustrated again and looked it up. HEY, YOU KNOW THE BLUE GEM?
APPARENTLY IT'S NOT A FETCH SPELL, AS ALL PREVIOUS EVIDENCE SUGGESTS, BUT A GENERIC "BREAK ENCHANTMENT" SPELL! WOULD YOU HAVE GUESSED THAT? I SURE DIDN'T BECAUSE NOTHING IN THE GAME SAYS THAT'S WHAT IT DOES. RRRRRRRGH.
Hurrraaaay another black room hurraaay
Screw that. Anyway, as a wisp, you can see a loose stone on the floor. Move the stone...
Another key! I didn't know I'd need two, but alright.
HEY, LOOK CLOSELY AT THIS ROOM AND SEE IF YOU SEE ANYTHING.
LOOK REAL CLOSE.
YUP, THAT'S WHERE THE ROYAL SCEPTOR IS. RIGHT THERE.
TAAADAAAAAH DARN IT, OPEN.
THERE FINALLY why THAT should do it as opposed to ANY OTHER COMBINATION is a mystery. GOD, KYRANDIA, EXPLAIN SOMETHING TO ME AT SOME POINT.
YOU'RE GOING TO GET THE EXPLODING OF A LIFETIME
Malcolm's Challenge has some opening riffs that I'm sure you can match with what's going on with the screenshots here. This is more serious than any other Malcolm theme so far since things are GOING DOWN.
Thank goodness it isn't morning or anything or Brandon would REALLY be in trouble.
...odd place to go after that.
haaahahahahahaha god I love you so much Malcolm.
Brandon whines furiously. MEEEEEEH >:(
"Kid, I blew up half the country."
Tee hee. Tee hee.
"And stop pushing meeeeee :<"
I can't help it, I think how Malcolm is just randomly pushing Brandon around is hilarious. Heehee.
I mean honestly, Brandon, what'd you expect him to do?
Who knew Brandon had it in him? :O Well he did throw that knife at him once.
Hahahahahaa I love those preening pictures Malcolm put up of himself. BUSY MAN, THAT MALCOLM.
MY PRECIOUS USELESS ITEMS I'VE BEEN CARRYING AROUND FOR HOURS NOOOOOOO
Final Showdown with Malcolm is DRAMA AND THUNDER AND ACTION. OMG. Still got a kind of flute going in it, heh.
This is a bit unclear, but that random floating ball in the previous caps hit Brandon here, and turned him to stone. So there you go. HMM, WHAT TO DO?
I bet you can figure it out. It's not the hardest puzzle in the world.
HAHAHA FOOOOOOOLED YOOOOOU
Malcolm Defeated (Closing Scenes) is just triumphant, happy music. Trilling flutes and happy thoughts abound. Heh. Although perhaps not as fast paced or energetic as you may assume. Has a nice melody to it though.
So wait was that room just a manifestation of Malcolm's evil or just completely magically created was the whole castle an illusion WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
"Thanks for telling me about that by the way."
"You bunch of eccentric crackpots!"
All those gaping holes and graffiti everywhere saying MALCOLM RULEZ
What's with you and sandals, Brandon?
plays badminton, reads a book, you know how it goes
but we cut that
Wow, that's it? THANKS.
Closing Credits (Kyrandia Saved) has a nice upbeat tempo and a jaunty kind of air. Heh. It's fun to listen to. :D Happy music. Actually more energetic than Malcolm Defeated, weirdly enough.
Fables and Fiends became this one's subtitle, but the general series was and is always called Kyrandia. Legend of. But whatever.
FRANK KLEPACKI WOOOOOO he does the music for all the Kyrandia games. :D I really like his stuff.
DID NO ONE CATCH THE PLOTHOLES
SCREW YOU FIREBERRIES
YOU CAN GO ROT FOR ALL I CARE
Hahahaha bold. Hey, what about Kallak and Faun?
Zanthia, still awesome.
WOO 1992, ALRIGHT
Wasn't that the same year that King's Quest VI came out? God, time goes by way too quickly.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT, LEGEND OF KYRANDIA! I recommend the other two in the series over this one, really, but this one kind of sets up the rest in a way, and some injokes only make sense with this one as context. But it's pretty enough and has nice music. JUST MAKE MAPS. LOTS OF THEM.
And next up... Pikmin! Maybe.
