I was just thinking about how I do these. Just, you know, thousands of screenshots that I just comment on here and there. I feel like this really gives more of a feel for the game, you know? I mean, I could write out a long essay about what the game is about and what happens, or even a mocking essay poking holes in the game as I went, and while it might be thorough, you don't get that same feel for what the game is actually like, you know? This way you can really see it happening, see the dialogue, really kind of...I dunno, connect with the game more than if I was just telling you about it. That's why I don't mind taking tons of screenshots or anything, since the more I take, the more you can see of the game itself and the more real the game seems. More like you're watching me play through it, rather than me just telling you everything that happens, and when you watch someone play a game it has more power. At least that's how it seems to me. Does that make sense?
Anyway, back to Saturn Valley! With the Zexonyte, we can complete the Phase Distorter and finally come after Giygas! What could possibly go wrong?
LOOK WHAT I'VE GOT
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY
HAHA AWESOME I DID GET IT AFTER ALL <3
I love the Mr. Saturns so much.
Oh man I hate points of no return like this, I always get really paranoid I forgot something important and will never be able to go back and get it. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT, SIERRA GAMES BUT ALSO MORE NOTABLY THAT ONE AMAZON GAME THAT MADE ME TERRIFIED TO FINISH ANY CHAPTER WITHOUT QUADRUPLE CHECKING MY INVENTORY and even then I still got screwed RRRGH.
I wonder if that's why I'm so afraid that I'm forgetting something whenever I go anywhere in real life?
I GOTTA MAKE SURE FIRST D:
okay okay just stop repeating yourself
Okay, so that hasn't changed yet. Giygas just lyin back, watchin TV in the Lost Underworld with a beer.
In retrospect, I probably could have dropped the map. I left some empty slots just in case there were items I'd want to pick up in the next area.
Paula seems strangely understocked. Ah well.
CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH MULTI BOTTLE ROCKETS
I PROBABLY COULD HAVE DROPPED THE PIGGY NOSE oh well.
YEAH I'M PUMPED, LET'S DO THIS! YEAH! LET'S GO!
YES I KNOW OKAY I'M PUMPED I GOTTA GO NOW BEFORE I THINK ABOUT IT
The music that plays here is...interesting. Cross Time and Space is kind of like...well at first you hear the sound of the Phase Distorter moving, but after that it's just this kind of weird, echoing trumpet. I think, if I remember right, it's actually the main part of that Beatles's song All You Need is Love played backwards. It's been a while since I've read up on my EB trivia though, but I'm almost positive that's it. Regardless, it's just kind of...strange and...unsettling? Almost kind of frightening, at least to me. It fits with the tone for the rest of the game, as you'll see.
If you've been following along the whole time, you've seen how lighthearted Earthbound can be, and those occasional dark/strange/messed-up/scary moments in it that seem all the more jarring because of the tone of the game everywhere else. The end of the game is very much in the same vein...you'll see it more when we get to Giygas.
And for only 42 pp? THAT'S A BARGAIN I CAN GET BEHIND!
And yes, there's only alpha and omega for Starstorm. Weird, huh?
A Mr. Saturn! And what looks like...
OH, TIME TRAVELIN EH? I'LL GET MY HANDS ON HIM YET.
Oh neat, can't go wrong with that.
WHAT DID YOU GUYS JUST MAKE A BACKUP AND NOT TELL ME
I always knew the Mr. Saturns were the smartest things ever. I LOVE THEM SO.
And then he just didn't finish his sentence. Okay, sure. HEY MR. SATURNS WHAT'S UP
What the heck can no one finish a thought around here what's going on guys
This doesn't really make it very clear, but Dr. Andonuts walked over to the side and did not just vanish into thin air.
Yes, I guess that would follow.
How much of a difference is there between "living things" and "lifeforms"?
How did they find this out? I hope some poor Mr. Saturn wasn't a victim. D:
YES I KNOW
I'M PUMPED I'M PUMPED YEAH TURN ME INTO A ROBOT YEAH LET'S DO THIS THING
YEAH COME ON QUICK BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND
Becoming a robot! Imagine it just playing for these little scenes. It matches what's going on, tho my screencaps don't make that readily clear. Man I feel like I'm being all disjointed today, sorry.
Jeff: WAY TO REMEMBER ME NOW, DAD, IT'S A BIT LATE
Well might as well, I'm here and all.
THUS IS THE WAY WITH ALL GREAT HEROES
Space Tunnel WOAHHOAHOWHWAHOAH
Huh, this looks ominous.
heee, robots! I can't help it they're awfully cute looking. 8D Little robot with a haaaaat
The Place is just kind of...strange, almost empty. Well not really...just...it's hard to explain. Creepy and atmospheric, lots of silences and strange pauses, and echoes.
Little dot eyes, hee hee.
FRIGGING MINOR ENEMIES GET OUT OF MY WAY you're still creepy wooly shambler
Ah, even here, the PSI Butterfly remains a feature. Oh PSI Butterfly.
Hahahaha I was just curious.
These odd little orbthings teleport you around
YOU'RE SO ANNOYING
And that's why I mirror the nucelar reactor robots.
Did this guy have a 1/128 item? I can't remember...I don't think so.
AHA! This sucker has the Gutsy Bat, Ness's final ultimate weapon, and has a 1/128 chance of dropping it. But as you can see, since the Bionic Kraken only shows up like...ten feet away from Giygas and the end of the game, it's REALLY hard to motivate myself to look for the Gutsy Bat, cause I might as well just beat the game at this point. I didn't even try to look for it this time.
OW apparently Paula has a fire protective amulet on.
And there, there it is. The doorway that will lead us to Giygas, and the final battle. Are you ready? ARE YOU READY?
Well we're not doing it now, we're doing it next installment. BUT I HOPE YOU ARE READY
